Since the establishment of our cacao farms in January 2016, we had been providing regular source of income to various farmers in Tinambacan District, specially the farmers who rely on the measly quarterly copra sales from the coconut farms.
The farm was first managed by Engr. Ricardo Dean Serrato for six months, from January 2016 to June 2016. Engr. Serrato was sent to the Cocoa Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. (CocoaPhil) in December 2015 to undergo the “Foundations of Sustainable Cacao Farming Training”. He was briefly succeeded by Gabriel Dean who trained under Mr. Grover Rosit, one of the Philippine’s successful cacao farmer.
The farm is currently managed by Mr. Osmena Tajo, a certified Cacao Doctor who underwent trainings at the Cacao Industry Development Association of Mindanao, Inc. (CIDAMI), the country’s premier training center for cacao farmers.
Mr. Tajo ensures that our farms observe good agricultural practices (GAP). Together with his wife, Melca, and our regular farmers, they ensure that our cacao trees and pods are protected from insects and diseases. They see to it that trees are regularly pruned, fertilizers are regularly and sufficiently applied, and weeds are removed. Our regular seasonal farmers are Jesus Contridas, Pabling, Polgen and several farmers in the vicinity of Sitio Soboc.
